Marketing Communications & Website Design for a Water Utility
Summary
Bragg Media Marketing provides ongoing creative and communications support for Hilton Head Public Service District, a special purpose district that provides water and service to Hilton Head Island.
Ongoing publicity and communications have increased awareness of important ecological impacts associated with water usage and streamlined the communications process for the PSD. Additionally, our team redesigned the PSD’s website to focus on a more intuitive organization and emphasize important environmental programs.
Challenge
As a semi-private and public special service district serving more than 19,000 customers in the north-and mid-Hilton Head Island areas, Hilton Head PSD needed a streamlined process for communications, marketing and creative collateral that emphasized the unique programs and awareness initiatives that play an integral part of the PSD’s mission.
INSights
Hilton Head PSD recycles more than 1 billion gallons of wastewater a year into beneficial recycled water. The recycled water plays a vital role in the Hilton Head Island ecology by providing irrigation water for 12 golf courses. It’s also used to nourish wetlands in Palmetto Hall and Hilton Head Plantation. This is one of a few reasons the PSD achieved the designation as a “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary” through the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program (ACSP), an Audubon International Program. Additionally, the PSD’s extensive experience with hurricane emergency preparedness and recovery has positioned the staff as experts in their field.
Solution
As Hilton Head PSD’s agency of record, Bragg Media provides ongoing communications support — press releases to local media, social media management, e-newsletters and print collateral. Our goal is to distribute continual information to the public about their drinking water and sewer treatment. At the same time, we emphasize the PSD’s environmentally conscious programs that benefit the Lowcountry’s natural habitats while spreading awareness of the challenges facing Hilton Head’s drinking water to encourage water efficiency throughout the community. We set up new social media outlets and developed a monthly e-newsletter that has provided increased exposure to reach the PSD’s customers. We also worked with the PSD’s bill insertion company to find cost-effective ways to deliver newsletters to their customers and customer surveys, which resulted in a record number of responses. Recently, the Bragg Media team redesigned an eye-catching, fully branded website that:
- highlights the programs, initiatives and services that set the organization apart,
- offers easy-to-find information for customers,
- populates categorized news information on certain pages,
- houses convenient online forms with automatic notifications and confirmations,
- integrates with the PSD’s e-newsletter system,
- operates on a secure server environment
